Poetry...English Class
Poetry is an odd thing, especially to me. I never really got what all of those seemingly random word, lines, and stanzas meant or why they had been written. I hated having to read poetry and then analyze it to try and find invisible and non-existent meanings. So when I heard that a professor from a local college was going to come and teach us about poetry I was not particularly excited. When he arrived (his name is Jim Ott, he also has a blog jimott.blogspot.com) he started to recite things that were complete jiberish to me, but after he broke it down and started to explain it to me I almost got it. I still don't like poetry, but now I can almost write it thinking that it doesn't have to have any rhyme, have any relevant meaning, or rhythm. Ha, poetry...

Second Wind
Second Wind - from Liam Hornby on Vimeo.
I actually liked this video. Usually I don’t like this kind of video; there is no action, comedy, or adventure. Instead there are just a couple of seemingly unlikely friends who have a unexpected encounter. The large cat didn’t like having his friend “stolen’ by the light creature. This video reminds me of other classic adventures and story lines, I just don’t know which ones. The animation of this video was very good and clean. I loved the way he portrayed the giant cat, it looks just like the cat from the old cartoon Tom and Jerry. This video was good and had a happy ending.

Attack of the Ninja
DJ Uppercut : The Attack of Ninja from Shane Lester on Vimeo
This video was...interesting? It was incredibly weird and different, but it was interesting. There were many things that I thought were well done and others that were not. I did like the way that the fight scene was portrayed, more specifically I liked the part of the fight scene were they were fighting in the city. This part to me looked like a very violent chess game. Other parts of the video were not so great. The animation was not very good. The back ground was the only thing that was moving in many of the parts. Although the animation was not perfect it got their message across. This video was fine for my standard.

GALACTIC MAIL!!!
Galactic Mail from Asterokid on Vimeo.
I loved this video. It is just the type of violent and comical cartoon that a childish boy like me cannot get enough of. I like how the people managed to make animals become the delivery system instead of humans. I also love how there were real delivering companies competing to deliver the package. There was so much action and in the end neither of them won. It also portrays its awesomeness by not using any dialogue at all. All of these factors together make this my favorite vide that I have ever watched!

In my eyes this video was weird, crazy, aggravating, agitating, alarming, barbaric, bothersome, creepy, depressing, discomforting, discomposing, disconcerting, discouraging, dismaying, disruptive, distracting, distressing, dumbfounding, extreme, frightening, gloomy, intense, intruding, irritating, laborious, merciless, mischievous, obscure, offensive, ominous, perplexing, perturbing, pessimistic, prophetic, provoking, rigorous, rambling, rugged, ruthless, savage, sinister, startling, threatening, tormenting, tortuous, torturing, troublesome, troubling, unpleasant, unsettling, upsetting, violent, vexing, woeful, worrisome, and most of all just plain DISTURBING. The animation was impressive, it just was not what I like to watch, I could see how someone would like this. The music itself was fine, but lyrics were very repetitive. I believe the entire song had only 12 different words. This video will give me nightmares for a week and it will stay in my head for a month. I hope you liked it, because if you didn't you probably found it just as disturbing as I did.

Above is a stencil image by an artist named Banksy. This is a wonderful piece of art that appears to have a man throwing a bouquet of flowers. Upon closer inspection you see that this man seems to have an aggressive, and almost angry, look, not at all what I would expect to see while you toss something as beautiful as a bouquet of flowers. This shows me that this man is a gangster in a fight, but his weapon has been replaced with beautiful flowers. If those flowers were not there then I think that a deadly weapon, that is possibly explosive, would be there instead. If you look closely you see that this man is covering his face, to me this means that he has a criminal reputation and is trying to hide his identity so that he does not get caught. Now look at the colors of this image. The only part of the entire drawing that is not black and white is the flowers. This, to me, symbolizes that this gangster society is throwing away their last ounce of sanity, hope, and peace. I love this picture and the powerful symbolism behind it. This picture has inspired me to look at more of Banksy’s work.

Stop motion madness
This video entitled Sorry I'm late is an amazing video utilizing the stop motion style of video to a level that I have never seen before. All of the pictures were taken so perfectly that, at times, it was hard to believe that it was a stop motion. Although that story line is very basic, a kid who misses the buss and has an adventure trying to get to school on time, it portrays his adventure through all types of transportation, from horseback riding to teleportation. Something else that I thought was funny was the way that the creators utilized a hardwood floor as a background and pillows as the ground. This video appeared to be very hard to make while I was watching it, but at the end when they showed how they made the video I saw that much of the creation was all in the editing and that showed me that it would be possible to create a stop motion like this one, but probably on a smaller scale. Overall I really enjoyed this video.
